Carol Slater, a London violinist, reported that her 1700 instrument was stolen on end March 2017 at Gatwick Express train’s overhead luggage rack. The violin was a 300-year-old Matteo Goffriller which was given by Carol’s father as a gift over 40 years ago. After a thorough investigation, the instrument was finally recovered by the British Transport Police. BTP found the instrument slightly damaged in a house located in the Northwest Area of London. Finally, the authorities returned the instrument to its owner.
Slater and her husband Ian Jewell, a violist, could no longer find the instrument when they disembarked the train from their 6:30 pm trip from London Victoria Station. The couple had to cancel their urgent flight because they had to search for the missing violin which took them up to the next train station, the Hayward’s Heath.
